To Create An Effective And Safe Product
For 10 years, our co-founder persevered to overcome five challenges that stood in the way of his research, to create a safe and effective product that would provide hope for people with liver disease.

Nova Research - Challenge 1
Identifying The Active Fraction
In the early stages of our co-founder’s research, a major challenge stood his way. This was discovering the active compounds that had therapeutic value in liver disease. Phyllanthus has hundreds of different types of plant compounds that had yet to be identified, and this made it more difficult to identify the active fractions that would be beneficial in protecting the liver.
Despite this, our co-founder went on to research more than 500 different fractions before he finally discovered the one fraction that showed the most promising effects in protecting the liver.

Nova Research - Challenge 2
Determining Active Compounds
After confirming the active fraction, his next challenge was to determine the combination of active Phyllanthus compounds that would be most beneficial in protecting the liver.
Our co-founder experimented with more than 300 different combinations containing varying quantities of active Phyllanthus compounds, before settling on the fraction containing 4% corilagin and 18% Phyllanthus flavonoids.

Nova Research - Challenge 3
Testing For Safety
Now that the active fraction has been identified, the next step was to ensure that this fraction would also be safe in humans when taken at the therapeutic dose.
This safety study was carried out by feeding mice and rabbits with more than 20 times the normal dose that was to be used in humans. This study was carried out for 6 months with mice and 9 months with rabbits. At the end of the study, vital organs and blood parameters of the two groups stayed within the normal ranges, indicating that the fraction of Phyllanthus used was safe for humans.

Nova Research - Challenge 4
Optimizing Absorption For Better Outcomes
Even now that safety and effectiveness have been established, our founder’s work was still unfinished. To develop an effective product, he had to ensure that the active Phyllanthus compounds would remain stable in the final product and would be well-absorbed by the body.
Developing an effective formulation that was highly absorbable in the body was a challenge due to the different water solubility profiles of Phyllanthus compounds in the active fraction. In addition, Phyllanthus compounds in the active fraction were also highly unstable and prone to degradation by air and moisture because they were no longer protected by the original plant’s matrix.
Our co-founder spent the next 3 years overcoming this challenge. The result was PhytoMatrix, a matrix formulation that improved both stability and absorption of Phyllanthus compounds in the active fraction.

Nova Research - Challenge 5
A Final Product That Is Safe And Effective
In 2005, eight years after our founder started his research on Phyllanthus, the final challenge that remained could make or break his years of hard work.
The final challenge was a test of the overall integrity of the product’s formulation. It was to ensure that even when the product was in our customers’ homes, and throughout the product’s shelf-life, the product would still be safe and contain effective amounts of active Phyllanthus compounds that would be therapeutically beneficial in protecting the liver.
This final test was done by subjecting products containing the final formulation to a constant temperature of 30°C for 2 years. At the end of this study, all products were shown to be safe and effective, with active Phyllanthus compounds still present at the end of the 2years testing period.
